Recruitment Overview

Recruitment is the lifeblood of our fraternity. The continued success of our chapter depends on our ability to recruit men who exhibit SigEp’s core principles in all aspects of their lives. Males students in their freshman and sophomore years are encouraged to consider SigEp.

Recruitment Criteria

DC Gamma seeks men who maintain balanced lives in accordance with principles of Sound Mind/Sound Body on which our fraternity is grounded. DC Gamma has cultivated a reputation for excellence on Georgetown’s campus. We are scholars, athletes, gentlemen, and leaders.

We excel in the classroom, currently boasting a cumulative GPA of 3.504 on the 4.0 scale. On the athletic field, we seek to dominate intramurals. To accomplish this, we push each other to maintain our bodies in top physical condition and promote an active lifestyle through our Sound Body activities.

Perhaps most importantly, SigEps are gentlemen; we hold ourselves to the highest standards of respect for each other and for other members of the community.

Ultimately, the goal of SigEp is to offer members with an experience during college that no other organization can provide.

Recruitment Process

In accordance with the Balanced Man Program on which our chapter is founded, we do not employ a traditional pledge process for recruitment. The DC Gamma chapter at Georgetown University conducts two recruitment cycles per academic year. Each “Rush” cycle lasts for approximately five weeks and occurs at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. During each Rush cycle, recruits are invited to attend a variety of Recruitment and Programming events to meet and interact with current brothers and to learn about our chapter and SigEp in general.

Each recruit is assigned a liaison, a member of the Recruitment Committee who guides him through the process. At the conclusion of the Rush cycle, each recruit participates in interviews with members of the Recruitment Committee. The first interview is informal and is hosted by the recruit’s liaison and the Vice President of the Recruitment Committee. Recruits chosen for a final, formal interview will be assessed by the entire Committee. At the conclusion of final round interviews, Committee members vote on each candidate; pending his acceptance by the committee, each recruit is presented to the general assembly of the fraternity for approval.

DC Gamma upholds the Balanced Man ideal of utmost respect for all, which includes recruits. As such, our chapter absolutely does not tolerate hazing or any other behavior that seeks to demean or belittle recruits. We believe that a brotherhood that does not promote trust and respect amongst its current and potential members will never succeed. Therefore, DC Gamma is committed to a recruitment process that preserves the integrity and individuality of all recruits.
